10 years of having a blog
11.07.2025Because blogging is too big a word. Anyway, this anniversary comes with a surprise from the archive.
Early days
Like every good nickname, Leibrug wasn’t self-proclaimed, but given by the friends. It’s an ananym of my last name - simple, yet so unique I was able to secure a domain name.
At first, this address hosted a rather nasty concept taglined “Website for fucking psychos” - a hand-picked selection of gore, adult, and other disturbing links. This dead-end endeavor lasted just for a couple of months in 2011 and I don’t count it towards the decade of online presence.
Young adult blog and a gift from the past
I rebooted almost a year later with relatively SFW personal website, where I posted some memories from high school, samples of creative writing, comments on cultural offer of that time (skewed towards TV commercials) and social etiquette - both online and real-world. Apparently I stopped publishing when I went to my first full time job, losing some of youngster creativity and plunging into the realms of XHTML and jQuery.
Today I bring this content back to its original place - lachim.leibrug.pl. It’s missing - pictures, styles or English translation, and will be static forever, although I believe it may be enjoyable for you. Or edible for your crawler.
What the blog means for me
The oldest entries here are all portfolio. 10 years ago I was less experienced and wanted to position myself for freelancing. Later it became more about personal brand - with the mix of mildly technical recipes and recommendations for articles and books, I hoped to be seen as competent and well-read professional. Today it feels similar to the previous incarnation of my web log - I like brain-dumping ideas and still don’t care about comments or viewership.
The only meaningful number
I’ve been more inactive than active (hence I called myself barely a blog owner). It’s funny how the period between 2019-2024 brought absolutely zero mentions of breakthrough, global events such as:
- Covid-19
- Crypto
- Inflation
- AI
I can’t wait to silently ignore more, especially quantum computing!
